Dental CT Scan
What is a CT scan?
It is a type of x-ray which produces high quality 3-D images of a patients upper and lower jaw, bone density, and associated structures and anatomy. This scan enables an implant surgeon to see these images quickly and use the information in preparing an implant treatment plan for patient.
What is the timing of a CT scan? Will I have to wait days for results, visit a different facility, etc..?
No, what’s so great about our scanning capabilities is that a patient will have it done right here in our facility on the same day as their initial consultation with results in minutes... another concern we had about referring patients out for scans is that some technicians are not trained specifically for dental scans, so the information may not be quite as accurate as we would like.
How does a dental CT scan differ from conventional x-rays?
Routine dental x-rays are two-dimensional; they only show the location of your teeth and the height of the bone. These x-rays are often distorted, and they cannot depict the thickness of your jawbone.
What is the cost of CT scans and does insurance help cover any of the expense?
Our cost falls right in line with the average for our area at $400.00…Insurance codes for a CT scan are available now. My qualified financial team will be happy to work with you to submit all pertinent information on your behalf in order to do everything we can to get coverage for you.
Is a CT scan an uncomfortable or painful experience at all like being placed in a tube or a chamber?
No, unlike a conventional CT scanner that sometimes requires a patient to lie on their back and be pulled through a “tunnel like” machine, you stand or sit comfortably with the machine surrounding just your head and mouth area in an open air environment.
How much radiation is involved in a CT scan?
Much less radiation than a conventional CAT scan or a chest x-ray…equivalent to having a full set of x-rays in your general dentist office. We will use all the appropriate protective equipment to make your exposure as minimal as possible.
Are there certain times you schedule these scans?
No, we have set up our schedule to be very flexible and allow us a lot of freedom in scheduling what is a good time for you. These scans can be performed during your initial consultation with our office if Dr. Sutor feels it is necessary.
